SBM Offshore Tools & Process

The Corporate Intranet System (CIS) is a web based Internet/Extranet portal. It is primarily aimed at providing SBM Monaco, SBM Atlantia, SBM Gusto and SBM Kuala Lumpur with a powerful communication and utility tool in order to share information worldwide. Only the approved members of the SBM Offshore group and their third parties (clients, vendors, classification societies, and yards) can access CIS.

Any authorized employee, client or subcontractor is able to access and consult the vast amount of project and associated data. The CIS provides the SBM Offshore group with the technologies they need for workgroup communication and collaboration, document/resource control and project management. The CIS provides a means of centralizing, consolidating, publishing and updating such project information that changes frequently. The following modules are accessible through CIS:

The Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) manages the complete engineering documentation. Each document is published in native format, automatically converted to PDF and stored in the CIS. Each single document is approved via an electronic workflow that tracks changes and comments.

This module interacts permanently with our procurement system, NADIA, to issue the documentation to suppliers. EDMS is automatically sending the documentation to the suppliers and 3rd parties in electronic format.

EDMS also interact with the Time Registration application to consolidate spent hours versus planned hours.

The Electronic Contractor Data Register application (ECDR) manages the complete Contractors documentation. It interacts permanently with NADIA to identify the documents required from each supplier depending on the NADIA package. Each document received from a supplier is published and stored in the CIS via ECDR. Each single document is approved via an electronic workflow that tracks changes and comments. Comments are automatically sent by ECDR to the suppliers to request updates. The Vendor Data Book is automatically generated from ECDR.

The Electronic Comments Management System (ECMS) manages the receipt and status of comments received against EDMS or ECDR deliverables sent to external party (clients, classification society, etc.). ECMS provides the traceability needed in ensuring all of an external party’s comments are recorded, addressed and provides real time data amongst all project engineering disciplines.

Controlled documents are issued through EDMS or ECDR and automatically recorded in ECMS. Once recorded, reporting tools allow for easier expediting of comments and better measurements for a project’s progress and success.

ECMS manages the SBM response to each comment and provides electronic distribution of the response back to the external party allowing for an auditable history of comments and responses at any time.

Benefits of CIS

Some of the benefits of the CIS are:

  • An increase in the speed and effectiveness in obtaining solutions to various business problems
  • Same tools, same procedures, same data for all engineering sites of the SBM Offshore Division
  • Provide on line real time accurate information on any project
  • Reduce the supply chain costs and improve supply delivery times
  • Provide a flexible and useful tool to the users
  • Allow SBM to capitalize on specific project knowledge
  • Assist us in providing a better service to our customers
  • Achieve Client satisfaction by maintaining and improving quality and safety in the execution of our services and completing contracts in the most efficient and effective manner

The Navision Attain Distributed and Integrated Application (NADIA) is utilized to issue the Project Equipment Lists by the Engineering Team. This list is used to package items to purchase in a manner to submit electronically a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to the suppliers. The engineering documentation is automatically attached to the RFQ from EDMS. An electronic workflow is generated to approve the Purchase Order (PO) once the supplier is selected. The PO is automatically generated in MS Word and PDF format and stored in CIS. NADIA is used also to manage the Logistics and Expediting.
